| Common Name | 2-(1,3-penta-diene)pyridine |
|---|
| Description | 2-(1,3-penta-diene)pyridine or 2-(1,3-Pentadienyl)pyridine, also known as Streptopyridin A, belongs to the class of organic compound known as pyridines and derivatives. Pyridines and derivatives are compounds containing a pyridine ring, which is a six-member aromatic heterocycle which consists of one nitrogen atom and five carbon atoms. 2-(1,3-penta-diene)pyridine is one of several structural isomers of pentadiene pyridine wherein different pentadiene isomers are attached at different locations around the pyridine ring. 2-(1,3-penta-diene)pyridine or Streptopyridin A is also belongs to the group of compounds known as streptopyridines. Streptopyridines are volatile pyridine alkaloids produced by Streptomyces sp. FORM5 a bacterium that is known to produce the antibiotic streptazolin and related compounds. There are five known streptopyridin compounds including Streptopyridin A, B, C, D and E. 2-(1,3-penta-diene)pyridine is formed during the combustion of cannabis and is therefore a constituent of cannabis smoke ( Ref:DOI ). |
