| Common Name | 2-dimethylamino-pyrazine |
|---|
| Description | 2-Dimethylamino-pyrazine or 2-Dimethylaminopyrazine, N,N-dimethylpyrazin-2-amine, also known as Ampyzine, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as dialkylarylamines. These are aliphatic aromatic amines in which the amino group is linked to two aliphatic chains and one aromatic group. It also belongs to the class of organic compounds known as aminopyrazines. These are organic heterocyclic compounds containing an amino group attached to a pyrazine ring. Pyrazine is a six-member aromatic heterocycle, that consists of two nitrogen atoms (at positions 1 and 4) and four carbon atoms. Ampyzine is a central nervous system stimulant. Ampyzine is a moderately basic compound (based on its pKa). 2-Dimethylamino-pyrazine is formed during the combustion of cannabis and is therefore a constituent of cannabis smoke ( Ref:DOI ). |
