| Description | Pyrrolopyridine, also known as 4-Azaindole, 1,3-Diazaindene, or 1H-pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyridine, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as pyrrolopyridines. Pyrrolopyridines are compounds containing a pyrrolopyridine moiety, which consists of a pyrrole ring fused to a pyridine. Pyrrole is a 5-membered ring consisting of four carbon atoms and one nitrogen atom. Pyridine is a 6-membered ring consisting of five carbon atoms and one nitrogen center. Pyrrolpyridine exists as a white or off-white powder that is soluble in methanol and chloroform and slightly soluble in water. Pyrrolpyridine is an important raw material and intermediate used in organic synthesis of agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and in the dyestuff field. Pyrrolpyridine formed during the combustion of cannabis and is therefore a constituent of cannabis smoke ( Ref:DOI ). |
