Cannabis Compound Identification
Common Name4,5-Dimethylimidazole
Description4,5-Dimethylimidazole also known as 4,5-Dimethyl-1H-imidazole, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as imidazoles. Imidazoles are compounds containing an imidazole ring, which is an aromatic five-member ring with two nitrogen atoms at positions 1 and 3, and three carbon atoms. 4,5-Dimethylimidazole is also classified as an alkylimidazole. It is one of several isomeric derivatives of Imidazole that contain two methyl substituents. 4,5-Dimethyl-1H-imidazole exists as an off-white powder that is moderately soluble in water. 4,5-Dimethylimidazole is formed during the combustion of cannabis and is therefore a constituent of cannabis smoke ( Ref:DOI ).
