Description | 6-octen-2-one belongs to the class of organic compounds known as ketones. These are organic compounds in which a carbonyl group is bonded to two carbon atoms R2C=O (neither R may be a hydrogen atom). Ketones that have one or more alpha-hydrogen atoms undergo keto-enol tautomerization, the tautomer being an enol. 6-octen-2-one is one of the major volatile constituents found in the essential oil of black walnut (concentrationhigher than 3%) ( Ref:DOI ) and is also a volatile compound found in pumpkin (Leffingwell Reports, Vol. 7 (No. 1), 1-14, January 2015). 6-octen-2-one is one of several ketones found in Cannabis sativa (PMID: 6991645 ). |
