| Common Name | cellulose |

| Description | Cellulose is a polysaccharide and as such, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as O-glycosyl compounds. These are glycosides in which a sugar group is bonded to another sugar group via an O-glycosidic bond. Cellulose is the most abundant organic polymer on earth and therefore also the most common polysaccharide found in Cannabis sativa. As a reference, the cellulose content of cotton fiber is 90%, that of wood is 40–50%, and that of dried hemp is approximately 57%. The use of cellulose-rich, hemp-derived fibers has gained a lot of interest, especially due to its relative light weight and its reported mechanical and antibacterial properties (PMID: 26870049 ). |
